The Twelve Rules for Clinicians who use CarefulGiving Money in an intervention are:
1. CarefulGiving Money is for interventions with their clients.
2. CGMoney cannot be used for the benefit of clinicians in any way, directly or indirectly, e.g., to pay for MH treatment.
3. CGMoney cannot be used for political purposes in any manner.
4. CGMoney is used for individuals and families, not for groups of any kind, (e.g., CGMoney cannot be used for churches etc.)
5. CGMoney is the money of last resort, i.e., the clinician must restrain from financial helping if the client has other resources. (The clinician must know other available resources.)
6. CGMoney is a means of helping the client negotiate chaos in their lives, CGMoney is not meant to simplify their lives, it is meant to help them negotiate the complexity of their lives and find meaning.
7. In the same manner, CGMoney cannot become part of the client's "Income" stream.
8. CarefulGiving Clinicians must look at the needs of the client culture and maturity level in deciding to make a financial intervention.
9. The Clinician must document the amount and purpose of a financial intervention in the client's record
10. CarefulGiving Money is always part of an intervention, it is never the only intervention.
11. The use of CarefulGiving Money imposes the same self restraint on its use as the limitations we see in our clients We are governed by the same rules as our clients, that is, use a financial intervention only as a last resort and to enable the generation of greater meaning.
12. Errors will happen, document them so we can learn from them. Using our best judgement is all that can be asked. Keep current on the literature.
