Social workers often do not have access to resources that a client in crisis needs. The situation is frustrating for both social worker and client. The feeling of helplessness also contributes to burnout in the social work profession. Our historical foundresses had more individualized access to financial resources; very rarely do our colleagues have access to ready cash for their clients. The need for this capacity is like the need a physician has for administering antibiotics or a lawyer to issue a subpoena or a teacher to require books for reading lists. These instruments enable those professions to function effectively. This workshop introduces an effective instrument for the art and profession of Social Work: namely, the ability to allocate financial resources professionally, legally and ethically.
